Madame Ma Sœur et très chère Nièce,

 

La sollicitude paternelle que Je dois et que J’ai vouée à Son Altesse Royale le Prince George Frédéric Alexandre Charles Ernest Auguste, Prince Royal de Hanovre, Mon fils bien-aimé, Me fait désirer d’assurer le bonheur de sa vie en lui faisant contracter un mariage convenable, et c’est en accédant aux propres vœux du Prince eque J’ai pris la résolution de faire demander pour lui la main de Son Altesse Sérénissime l a Princesse Alexandrine Marie Wilhelmine Catherine Charlotte Thérèse Henriette Louise Pauline Elisabeth Frédérique Georgine de Saxe, Fille ainée de Son Altesse Sérénissime le Duc régnant de Saxe-Altenbourg. Avant de faire à cet égard des démarches officielles et publiques, Ma qualité de membre de l’Auguste Maison régnante du Royaume-Unie de la Grande Bretagne et d’Irlande, et de Descendant de Sa Majesté le Roi George II de glorieuse mémoire, m’impose cependant le devoir de Me conformer aux termes du Statut Royal 12 Geo : III. cap. 11.  C’est donc à cette fin que Je sollicite par les présentes au nom de Mon fils bien-aimé le consentement de Votre Majesté pour l’union matrimoniale ci-dessus énoncée en La priant de vouloir bien entériner ce consentement sous le grand sceau de l’état, le déclarer en son Conseil privé et le faire porter sur les rôles du dit conseil privé.  Ma conviction intime de la part sincère que Votre Majesté prend à tout ce qui Me regarde, ainsi que du tendre et véritable attachement dont Elle a toujours honoré le Prince, Mon fils, Me garantit d’avance l’accueil favorable que cette demande ne pourra manquer de rencontrer et Je saisis avec empressement cette occasion pour renouveler à Votre Majesté l’assurance de la haute estime et de l’invariable amitié avec lesquelles Je suis

Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith

To all to whom these Presents shall come Sendeth Greeting;

 

Whereas by an Act of Parliament intituled “an Act for the better regulating the future Marriages of the Royal Family” it is amon other things enacted that no Descendant of the Body of His Majesty King George the Second Male or Female other than the Issue of Princesses who have married or may hereafter marry into foreign families shall be capable of contracting matrimony without the previous consent of His Majesty His Heirs or Successors signified under the Great Seal.

 

And Whereas Our Dear Cousin Prince George Frederick Alexander Charles Ernest Augustus of Cumberland [Prince Royal of Hanover] hath represented unto Us, that he is desirous of contracting Matrimony with the Princess Alexandrina Mary Wilhelmina Catherine Charlotte Theresa Henrietta Louisa Paulina Elizabeth Frederica Georgiana of Saxony eldest Daughter of the Reigning Duke of  Saxe-Altenbourg ;

 

Now know ye, That We have consented, and do by these Presents signify Our Consent that the said  Prince George Frederick Alxander Charles Ernest Augustus of Cumberland should contract Matrimony with the said Princess Alexandrina Mary Wilhelmina Catherine Charlotte Theresa Henrietta Louisa Paulina Elizabeth Frederica Georgiana of Saxony.

 

In Witness whereof, We have caused the Great Seal to be affixed to these Presents.

 

Given at Our Court at Saint James’s the thirteenth Day of June 1842 in the Fifth Year of Our Reign.
